For Immediate Release: September 7, 2011 (Calgary, AB)

On Sunday September 18th thousands of Calgarians will run in the streets to support the Terry
Fox Foundation; that same weekend dozens of servers will run their butts off for the Terry Fox
Foundation. The staffs from six Calgary restaurants have agreed to hand over all of their tips at
the end of their shift one night over the weekend of September 16‐18.

Brendan Bankowski, Managing Partner of Taste Restaurant, got involved two years ago after
learning about the program and seeing that no restaurants were supporting it. “Terry Fox is my
hero, and almost everybody has been touched by cancer in their lives, so I put it out to my
colleagues to get involved.” His servers all jumped at the chance, requiring him to break up the
evening into two shifts so everyone could participate.

Going into its third year, Bankowski has now sold the idea of ‘Tips for Terry’ to six other fine
dining restaurants in the city: Una, Charcut, Cilantro, Divino, The Ranche and NOtaBLE.
“Everybody came back to me with an immediate ‘yes’ to participating; I would love to see 100s
more join us in the future.” Each restaurant will choose one night over the weekend to
participate with the goal of raising $25,000 total over the weekend.

To date, Taste servers have raised close to $5,000 in two years. “All it took was to put it on our
Facebook page, tell some regular customers and wear the shirts and we were overwhelmed by
how much people were willing to ‘tip’ for Terry,” says Bankowski. Each restaurant is deciding
independently which night will work best, patrons can contact them directly to find out when
they will dedicate to the Terry Fox Foundation.
