Co Do Vietnamese Restaurant

Last night before heading out to see The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Jen and I dined at one of our favorite little Vietnamese restaurants, Co Do Vietnamese on 17th Ave (MAP).

Co Do is one of our favorites simply because we both love Sate Beef Pho, and Co Do does that dish extremely well. Unlike some of the more milky or oily broths that other Vietnamese restaurants serve, Co Do’s Beef Sate is clean and refreshing, with a spice that is just right. Their medium serving size is perfect and priced well at $7.95, although last night being especially hungry I went for the large which set me back $8.95. Yup, I finished the whole thing too, even after piling away three spring rolls first. Surprisingly, Jen also finished her medium, a huge feat forĀ  her.

Speaking of spring rolls, one sure fire way to assess the care put in by a kitchen’s chef, is via their deep fryer oil. What I love about Co Do, is their deep fryer oil is always clean, and it is reflected in the quality of their spring rolls. Always crisp and golden, Co Do’s spring rolls are a treat that Jen and I only indulge in rarely, but when we do we thoroughly enjoy them. As a general rule we both like to eat fairly healthy, which I guess is why we like Pho so much.

The great thing about Co Do is that even though you feel like you are eating in a gem of a hole in the wall, which you are, you don’t feel like you are in a hole. The decor is nice, the peopleĀ  are friendly, and the prices are the most reasonable in the city for the quality of food you get, which is why Co Do gets a link in our Restaurants we Like! section.

Happy eating,

Nolan

I personally enjoy Bagolac Saigon, which is near Chinook C-Train station. Check it out!

Mmm, that one is right by my office. One of the nicest decors of any vietnamese restaurants I've been in. Been a while though, will have to make another visit. Any suggestions as far as menu items?

Hello Mr. Thatcher!

Have we not been to that restaurant together? Or was that Megan, Krista, Jolene and I? Anyways we should check it out together and catch up. It's been so long since I have seen you both!

Hi JayJay,

I know your comment was addressed to Nolan, but I have to say that I used to frequent Quyhn Vietnamese almost every time I went to see a movie at the Cineplex. Love the restaurant, very inviting and well decorated and their Pho Sate is excellent and very similar to Co Do. I like that Co Do has a little extra spice and heat, which I really enjoy! I have never been to Pho Dau Bo, but will have to try it if we are in the area.

Thanks for your comment.

Sorry Jen,

I didn't mean to single you out!

I'll have to give Co Do a try if you prefer it to Quynh! I must warn you - Pho Dau Bo sate is really hot - but I can't handle the heat so much but this might appeal to you.

Quynh does have a few nice touches that I really like - excellent decor, uniformed (english speaking) staff, and the best of all, they bring separate dipping sauces for each person when you order rolls. This is important when you are dining with acquaintances or co-workers :)

Keep up the good work guys

Nolan, you should check out a couple of my favorites and let us know how they rank compared to Co Do. I have been going to Quynh in the NE (Sunridge area, near the theater) and Pho Dau Bo (17th avenue, in the little Saigon Mall near the T&C liquor store).

Maybe you'll have a change of heart. Or maybe you'll convince me to check out Co Do instead.
