Sunday Miscellaneous

Since December 25 our traffic has increased by 157%, which was probably helped considerably by the fact that we took over the number one ranking on urbanspoon’s blog leader board. We have also increased our email readership to 284 people, which is awesome because in the future these people will have access to special deals with many of the restaurants we have relationships with.

A special thanks to District for entertaining a special treat for one of our Ontario colleagues, she was blown away by the meal that you guys created for her.

Domaine CastanLast week we did our first weekly wine giveaway, which had 20 entrants. Our winner was commenter number 11 Jill. She has won herself that beautiful bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon/Petit Verdot. This weeks draw is for Domaine Castan’s Les Terres Rouges, another Opimian wine that is bound to be delicious (we haven’t had an opimian wine we haven’t loved yet).

To enter this weeks draw answer the following question. What is your favorite cold weather meal?

Also, be sure to check out Petites Wagyu Beef Dinner Tuesday Jan 25, 2011. If you aren’t sure what Wagyu beef is, take a look here, I promise you will understand the price once you understand what it is.

For me it's any kind of hearty soup or pasta (a yummy carbonara)!!

Nothing like a big bowl of Hamburger Soup topped with grated cheddar cheese and some garlic toast as well. Add a little ground chili pepper to warm it up. Delicious.

My favourite cold weather meal would definitely have to be chicken pot pie, and not just any chicken pot pie. I was lucky enough to have a Mother who felt it necessary to teach a 12 year old how to cook and help out in the kitchen as much as possible. Although I wasn't too keen on spending the better half of my teenage years having to cook dinner on Tuesday and Thursday nights (sans Mom, except for her constant critique and 'constructive criticism' if you will, over my shoulder) I am very thankful that I had the opportunity now. Unfortunately, my Mom passed away 5 years ago when I was 17. But I cherish our recipes and find even more comfort and happiness in those regular old comfort food recipes now! <3

My favorite cold weather meal is homemade Pho with silky soba noodles, a pile of barely steamed veggies and thinly sliced marinated venison on top. Venison goes perfect in pho.

My fav cold weather meal has got to be homemade beef stew ... with my mum's recipe for dumplings plopped on top ... actually, I'm making it tonight! :-)

Raclette! Hard to find my cheeses from back home in Calgary, but I've made it with Oka Raclette, Ile aux Grues cheddar, and Victor & Berthold. Served with potatoes and baguette, schinken speck and an australian Pinot noir. Delish.

My favorite cold-weather meal is Cream of Potato soup with grilled cheese & onion on the side!!

A fav winter meal of mine is mushroom bisque with fresh truffle buttered baguette topped with melted asiago cheese and an awsome California Zinfandel.

My favourite cold winter meal is Mongolian Hot Pot, there's nothing more satisfying that conjuring up a variety of dipping sauces and cooking all sorts of meats, vegetables, noodles... at the table with friends with and family.

My Better Half requested his fave tonight; Winter Tortellini Soup.

My favorite winter meal is Italian sausage lasagna with loads of cheese that is slightly burnt on top. Yum yum

My new fav is sitting around a grill at Korean BBQ cooking different foods for hours and talking -- I barely noticed how cold it was outside.

My Mom's Creamy Chicken and Rice Casserole. Often imitated, never as good.

My favorite cold weather meal is a vegetarian chili that I make in my slow cooker. So delicious!
